  1. Hi son,

I’m glad you are o.k. It looks like you are putting some miles on your r.v.

You’re doing a good job documenting your trip. Your mom and I enjoy reading about your travels. We’ve got a map book and we’ve been tracking you on it. I like the Google map better though.

We’ve been having a lot of rain today. We didn’t get any water in our basement. It got within about 2 inches of coming in but it started to drain off. The water comes down the hill and flows down to the back of our house when it rains really hard. We got over an inch of rain in just a few minutes today.

    Keep blogging!

    We love you,
    Mom & dad

  3. Hi Joe,
Your dad gave me this link to follow your progress. You will soon be in the Oxnard/Port Hueneme area. We lived in Oxnard in the late 80′s when I was a Security Specialist at the Security Engineering Division in Port Hueneme. I fabricated and tested hardened doors and walls for VIP security. It was a lot of fun. We used the FBI Swat Team from LA to shoot at the panels to test them. Sorry, you had an accident with your monitor. Like your dad said, you should be able to obtain a replacement for a fraction of what it used to cost. One of my old Marine Corps buddies, Jim Parsons, travels around the country in an RV. If you ever need to ask anyone for advice he would be a good source. I will send you his email address when I dig it out of my contact list. Have fun and good luck in your adventures….

  5. Unfortunately, I sold my BMX bikes, assuming I wouldn’t have room for them in the RV. But, I ended up with a three-bike carrier, anyway, so I totally would have had room. Poor planning. But, I’m planning to pick up another one next time I’m near a flea market on a weekend, or see a good deal on craigslist nearby.

  6. No way! It’s too cold, right now. But I’ll probably be over that way in the summer months. I’ve only visited Boston once, when we were interviewing for Y Combinator, and that was a quick trip, so I’d like to spend a little time there. It’ll have to be warm, though. I don’t do cold, now that I don’t have to.

  7. Good morning son,

Sorry to hear Long Beach is booked after Tuesday. I see you are headed toward Mexico. Please don’t go down there. They are having problems with gang violence.

You are always welcome here. It’s a little over 3,000 miles though.

    Love,
    Dad

  8. Hi son,

It’s about 3,107 kilometers or 1,931 miles from Los Angeles to Atlanta. Sorry for the previous wrong comment.

    Love,
    Dad

  9. Hi!
Been following you for a while now. My husband and I began our rv life in 2006. Looking at your map I see you completely missed the Santa Barbara/Carpinteria area. So many nice places to stay here believe it or not! Just need to give advance notice.
We live in a mobile home park here and we love it.
At some point we’ll be technomads too, but for now, we are parked and enjoying being Santa Barbara. If you’re ever in town, would love to meet up for a drink or a meal or just a walk on the beach!
I am guessing you won’t be our way again soon, but just in case…we’re here!
Looking forward to more posts of your journey.

  10. Hi son,

I don’t know where Slab City is located. Is it near San Diego?

    Love,
    Dad

  11. Hi son,

I see you updated your map. That’s good. Now I can see where slab city is located. I’m glad you made it back to your old stomping grounds. You can take 290 east and end up close to our old home in Houston. You will also get close to the best flea market I’ve ever seen, Trader’s Village. They also have a nice r.v. park on site. You could park there and go to some of the good restaurants in Houston.

    Love,
    Dad
